2008 Annual MassTec Conference

The Annual MassTec Conference was held once again at Fitchburg State College Industrial Technology Department, 160 Pearl Street, Fitchburg, Massachusetts on November 14, 2008.

The 2008 MassTEC Conference was a wonderful opportunity to network with others who share the same interests and responsibilities that you might have. At the 2008 conference over 150 attendees caught up on the latest from the Department of Education, engaged in discussions with vendors, attended workshops and learned about the latest technologies for the classroom.

The theme of the 2008 conference comes from the ITEA perspective: "D E L I V E R I N G  T H E   T & E   I N   S T E M "

At the 2008 confereence a presentation was shown at the lunchen featuring John Burns who recently passed away. If you would like to view the video presentation click here.

Dr. Michael Zapantis's specific recommendations and THE FUTURE technology engineering from his key note speech

  • DESE and the state colleges and universities should encourage more teachers to become licensed in technology/engineering.
  • Technology Engineering should be taught preK-16
  • Multiple Technology Electives should be offered in grades 9-12 that stimulate invention and innovation.
  • We should foster more technology articulation agreements with high schools and two-year community colleges and four year colleges. 2 plus 2 plus 2 programming.
  • Colleges and DESE should promote dual certification in science and technology engineering.
  • We need to educate guidance staff and central office administration about technology engineering.
  • High School science departments should rename themselves science and technology engineering departments.
  • Massachusetts needs to continue and promote STEM grants and programs.
  • Students should be required to take and pass the Technology/Engineering MCAS test in addition to one Biology, Chemistry or Physics MCAS test as a graduation requirement.
